Last semester, I was invited to join the NSCC Advisory Committee for their quarterly meeting. This meeting focused on creating a plan for the portfolio show that was set to take place the following semester. At this meeting, it was revealed that for the first time in Nashville State history, there would be a showcase displaying the parting portfolios of not only the Graphic Design students, but also the Web Design, Multimedia, and Photography students!
As you might expect, this meant that it would be larger in scale compared to previous shows. Because of this, the Advisory Committee decided to elect a Student Portfolio Show Committee. Having volunteered to be a member, I meet each week with five other students and two professors to plan the event. We are then responsible for reporting any new information to our classes.
DeeGee Lester met with the student committee not too long ago to interview us about the show. We were given an article in the 2017 April edition of Nashville Arts Magazine. One of my images got published in the article (located here), along with a quote about my experience at NSCC. Matt Booker was also published, and I am extremely proud of him! I never would have imagined that my work would show up in a well-known magazine at this point in my life. I am so thankful for my connection with DeeGee, because she is such a passionate and outgoing woman.
Being a part of this process has helped to improve my confidence tenfold. I now feel completely capable when accepting opportunities. I believe in myself and the work that I do. Nashville State has been invaluable to my growth as a person.
I would love to share my experience with all of my closest friends and family members. The event will take place at Nashville State Community College from 5PM-7PM in the H-Building Art Gallery. There will be music, food, art, photography, design, and creativity floating in the air. I can't wait to see you there!
